Groundwork Training 2006

18 March 2006

360 degree turn

After practising taking control of each of their horse’s legs and moving their horse one step at a time in all directions it was time for the students to show their horse’s the practical application of the obedience required.

The first test was to turn 360 degrees inside a marked box. To make things easy for the horses the box was large, this allowed them to turn without the risk of hitting any of the poles. Once the horse is confident in what is required the size of the box can be reduced till the horse only spins on the spot.

A very enjoyable day, the theory of Ki when put into practice made sense and the results with the horses was amazing.

Ground work and practical handling course was the follow on to the Hook on and I would recommend both very highly.

Liz Farquhar

The introduction to the principles of Ki and the human/horse interaction that results created an intellectually stimulating start to the day, concluding withthe practical application. The proof of the pudding is in the eating!

Neil Farquhar

Another great course delivered by Morag who has a real talent for explaining the theory and then showing and helping you get it right in practice.

Precision Control

The second groundwork course of the year saw better weather and a new group of students, the youngest being 12yrs old! Instructors Morag Higgins and Brogan explained the fine points of precision control and how the ability to raise and lower your energy corresponded with the amount of energy shown in the movement.
Before carrying out any of the set exercises, the students, accompanied by their equine instructors, moved around the arena, putting into practise the skills demonstrated. This gave each individual time to get to know their horse and to experience how much energy each horse required to place their feet precisely.

Moving Through L-Shape

Once a bond of understanding had been formed between the partners it was time for the students to put their theory to the test and move their equines through the set exercises.
